At homecoming this year, the Smoky Hill Seniors debuted a new crowd favorite- The Parting of The Red Sea. The celebration, which includes senior Jake Martin dressed up as the biblical figure of Moses parting the crowd after a particularly exciting moment of a pep assembly or game, and has even been recreated by other schools in the district, such as Regis Jesuit High School. This lead to disappointment as rumors circulated the school saying that this Wish Week, the Red Sea would not be allowed to be performed during the pep assembly.

However, sometimes rumors are just rumors. “Well this will be the easiest interview I’ve given yet, it’s not true.” Scott Cohen, Activities director said.

The rumors most likely stemmed from the announcement of two popular, now banned, assembly celebration items- confetti and powder. “The basketball game is 30 minutes after the assembly,” Cohen said.

“We don’t want to have to postpone the game because we can’t clean everything up in time.”

The Red Sea lives on another day for Martin and the rest of the senior class. “Honestly, we’d rather have the sea than anything we have to clean up,” Cohen said.
