Mahwish Rana, Staffer
Mahwish Rana is a freshman at Smoky. This is her first year in newspaper, she joined because she loves writing, and journalism and hopes to pursue it in the future. She’s learning skills like how to write proper articles and how to take interviews. What she loves about newspaper is the close community it has and how everyone is friendly and helpful. Aside from newspaper, she’s in Drama club, Aerial Dancing, and Muslim Society Association. Mahwish agrees that newspaper is a great way to express yourself and have your voice be heard, it’s a way to bring things to attention and make a change in your community.
In the future, Mahwish sees herself traveling the world and writing about it all. She’s always had an interest in writing since she was little, she wrote poems, journaling, and fictional stories. She’s excited to try reporting because it’s a new topic for her. After high school, she definitely wants to be involved in writing somehow and tie that in with traveling. In newspaper, she needs to work on keeping up with deadlines and opening up to the idea of interviewing more people to get different perspectives in her articles, she hopes to become better at this and write even better articles to reach her full potential. Newspaper has been a great decision for her, especially because it’s very different from how you usually write in English, for example. It´s a new way and she’s excited to improve at it, and keep trying harder to succeed.
