Auditions for the school play, Alice in Wonderland, began September 14. The play will be shown November 13-14 at Smoky Hill High School. Many factors go into auditioning for a play including, acting skills, confidence, and experience in performing arts.

Tim Brown, the director for Alice in Wonderland, wants to stay true to the original material from 1934.¨That the version we put on stage is the version that the playwright intended when they were intending,” said Brown.

Brown looks for many different things in each actor. Experience, while not required, is desired. They need to have a good stage voice and confidence, as well as creativity and commitment. “Usually the students who do well in auditions have experience,” Brown said.

There usually about 70-75 students who audition, and about 20-30 roles. Students do not have to take acting classes but it is helpful.“The more experience they have the better,¨ said Brown. There a lot of things a student can do to prepare themselves for their audition, but a few students have been able to exceed Brown’s expectations without taking any classes or experience. “I would say the main thing is to find a piece or monologue that you enjoy, and practice enough so your not nervous,” he said.
