Smoky’s Newest Mural

IMG_4250.JPGFrom making meals for the homeless, to volunteering at animal shelters – and everything between – IB students are working hard on their personal projects. Personal projects are long-term assignments that are supposed to be rooted in what a student is interested in doing after high school.

“Personal projects are supposed to last a while, like over a month,” sophomore John Myung said. “They’re supposed to be a gateway from what you are doing now to what you want to do later in life.”

One of these personal projects is a new mural being painted for the school by Myung.

“I’ve always wanted to paint a mural,” Myung said. “I remember when I was little I would always see them and I thought they were so cool, and I’m really hyped up to be doing one of my own.”

Myung’s mural is meant to speak to everyone, with symbols such as sports equipment and guitars to reach out to the community.

“I wanted to do something where no matter who walked by, they could all relate. I wanted it to be where no one was left out, and wasn’t for one specific group. It’s kinda just general Smoky Hill,” Myung said.
The new mural is estimated to be finished on Tuesday, March 17.
