Pi Day Celebration

Smoky Hill High School celebrated Pi Day on the 14

Kyle Rolfe, Staffer

Pi Day, invented by  Larry Shaw, was celebrated Monday, March 14. Here at Smoky Hill, some of the math teachers brought in something tasty. Most of the Math teachers that brought in treats, brought pie to the Math Resource Center, just to pig out.

The number 3.14 has a trillion numbers after the decimal. Only 39 digits passed the decimal are needed to calculate the exact spherical volume of our whole universe.

“Pi day is important but I feel that we should honor all the other classes as well, like English should have a comma day or how History has Veterans day or MLK day but my favorite part of Pi day is the free pie,” said Michael Devine a Geometry teacher

There are fun and tasty ways to celebrate Pi day, You can go into a food restaurant that sells pies and probably get one for a discounted price, even at stores and supermarkets. Making your own pie is also a great idea, create a “pi” environment with the sign in the walls and doors.

Last years Pi day was very special because the date was 3/4/15 standing for 3.1415, the first 4 numbers after the decimal.

“That is a shame that last year’s pi day was not during school, it was on a sunday, it could’ve been a fun celebration…it was a once in a life opportunity,” Devine said.
