The Drum Line keeps the Homecoming atmosphere alive and thriving at Extremefest

Smoky Junior Damion Ponzi, 16, as most clubs and activities this week has had a full schedule for Homecoming here at Smoky Hill. Ponzi is a section leader for Drum line, which performs at Spirit bus, Extremefest, Homecoming Parade, the pep assembly, and the homecoming football game.

“(The most stressful time) is definitely Homecoming, this is the busiest we are the entire year. Everyday we don’t perform for a homecoming event we have practice.” said Ponzi.

For those that went to extremefest, Drum line had a booth where people could play the groups’ instruments. Of all the events Extremefest was the most stressful Ponzi said.

“It was personally stressful, as the section leader it’s my responsibility to make sure everybody’s playing in time. And when you invite someone who has never touched a drum and let them play on your instrument, it was giving me a headache because I couldn’t keep track of what we were playing. It was fun none the less.” Said Ponzi.

Throughout the year Drum line performs at Class meetings, three competitions, football, soccer, basketball games and other sports, as well as Homecoming week. Ponzi explains that performing at the smaller sports is preferable because marching band isn’t there like at the football games. Drum line is smaller and overall more versatile.

“The smaller games that we play at the basketball and the soccer games are more fun because it’s just us [drum line].” Said Ponzi.

Throughout all of the practices and stresses of the year, Ponzi was asked which event was his favorite.

“(My favorite performance) is the first parade we do because it is symbolic for the start of the season.” Said Ponzi.
