Getting to Know Our Principal’s Secretary

Nafees Abidi, Staffer

Bev Rideout is the secretary of the principal. Rideout has been working at Smoky Hill High School for 14 years now. She has seen three principles come and go.

“Mr. Karr and I worked together for seven years, so I was the closest with him,” said Rideout.

Every morning Rideout comes at 6:45 A.M. and goes home at 3 P.M.. Rideout sets up the calendar for Mr. Puga, who is the new principal. Rideout has scheduled Mr. Puga to nearly go to every class so he can interact with students.IMG_5630.JPG

“I do not let my work life affect my personal life,” said Rideout. Instead she combines her work and personal life.

“I enjoy coming to sport events, homecoming week, and I go to the parade every year,” said Rideout. Rideout tries to stay involved at sporting events and homecoming week as much as possible. She brings her husband and grandchildren to school sporting events.

Rideout has her associates in business. Before coming to Smoky Hill, she used to work at Eaglecrest. “I didn’t have any particular reason, I just needed a change. I think change is good for everyone,” Rideout said.

“When I first started working here, I worked in activities and that requires a lot more student involvement and interaction. I never have had any issues with students, staff, or parents because I don’t like conflict, so I try to get along with everyone,” Rideout said. She has no plans of retiring, and she is friends with her co-workers.
”I think Smoky Hill is a great place. If I didn’t think that I wouldn’t be working here for so long. The students are great, the parents are great, and the staff is great. Everyone is so welcoming. My husband is even friends with the staff at Smoky Hill. I’m glad I come into a place like Smoky Hill every morning.”
