Recently, Smoky has held a small college fair for students– the Regional Officers of Admissions of the Rockies, ‘ROAR’ College Fair. The fair allowed students to get help registering and become more educated in some of the many colleges across the country.
Over ten booths were set up from multiple different universities, and a speaker from general admissions of each college helped clarify any questions the students may have, or give basic information on the school they represent.
Katie Bainbridge, Senior Regional Recruitment Manager for Ohio University, talks about how long she’s been a speaker for Ohio University.
“I’ve worked as an admissions counselor for almost twenty years. This is a really fun part of my job,” Bainbridge said.
Bainbridge talked to multiple students while handing out pamphlets with information on the many majors and minors Ohio University offered, which can be seen around most of the booths.
“I thought it was very educational and shows a wider variety of options for colleges, and it allows you to talk more about them,” Nataly Avalos (10) said.
Although the college fair has ended, this is not the only opportunity the students received to become familiar with other colleges.
Today, Mar. 4, in Post-Grad, both Alaska Pacific University and Community College of Aurora visited Smoky to talk to students more about their college.
“I got more education on tuition, costs and what it looks like on campus so I would say it was a worthwhile trip,” Dom Crowe (10) said, after talking to multiple colleges about their benefits and tuitions, “It’s good to share the education, plus it gives you the opportunity to know what to look for.”
The school continues to set up college fairs and meetings to help students educate and register with some of the many varieties of colleges. Upcoming college fairs and event information will be posted on Schoology for all Smoky students.
