Out in theaters Bob Marley: One Love, directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, and starring Kingsley Ben-Adir, tells the story of Jamaican singer and songwriter Bob Marley and his music. This movie highlights the rise of reggae music and the powerful message through Bob Marley’s famous songs, while also telling his story during this time and the hardships he had experienced in correlation to his music.
The film focuses on the message in Marley’s music, telling how he wanted his songs to speak to the violence in Jamaica and promote peace.
The actor, Kingsley Ben-Adir, portrays Marley incredibly well and tells his story in a way that most actors could not, through his singing and performance on guitar also was able to to portray Marley close to how he was.
Ziggy Marley, son of Bob Marley, helped bring the movie to theaters and make it authentic. His dedication to making the movie for his father added a sense of authenticity that made the film feel real, and it really shows through the actors and music he specifically picked to fit the story.
The cinematic graphics were also done very well, and used a lot of visuals instead of straight out saying what was happening, giving a feeling of intrigue which captivated the audience. For example, to show fear they would show a field surrounded in fire instead of telling the audience how he was feeling. It’s a great cinematic touch and while it’s a simple add to the story, it is able to interest an audience.
The movie all in all was influential, it did an excellent job of having the audience experience emotions right along with the actors and see an authentic story told by quality actors and music, and is worth seeing at least once as its an amazing cinematic experience.
