After school traffic

How after school traffic can be minimized

After school traffic

Kalani Winchester, Staffer

Have you asked yourself, Why does it take so long to get home from school? Well here are some reasons why. In recent police reports, it is logged that there has been lots of car traffic with construction, car accidents, and  911 emergency calls.

A teacher at smoky hill High school Mr. Curtis Black states and quotes, “At times I have seen a couple of car crashes on my way home that stop traffic,”. This goes to show that car accidents allay a huge role in traffic in small areas like a school zone.

Another factor is the number of students that go to Smoky Hill High School. For this, I interviewed Taaron Ashton who is a sophomore here at Smoky Hill. He says that he spends around thirty minutes after school waiting for his ride home to come because of traffic. This is a good example of how traffic makes it hard for parents to pick up their kids at other schools.

The timing of when school ends and when parents and people with jobs get out of work is bad timing. What Smoky Hill could do to solve this situation is open the bus exit when there are no buses in the lane. This would solve the traffic jam issue and allow cars to exit the school.

In the end school and traffic just don’t agree with each other. The best way to solve this is to get your ride to school early, to pick you up from school.
