This year at Smoky marks the 50th anniversary of the school. The 50 years is what makes Smoky Hill the school it has become today, from 1974-2024.
As this is a big moment for the school, celebrations will take place. The school plans on, according to Activities Director Scott Cohen, “small celebrations throughout the year and homecoming will be focused around it.”
There will be no big celebration as he explained, “Don’t know where we would hold something like that.” Instead of one big night, it’ll be celebrated on small occasions throughout the year.
The start of these small celebrations has been seen with the teachers’ shirts saying “50th” and stickers that were handed out on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at the beginning of the day. School staff began hanging up pictures from over the years all over hallways in the building, showing different activities: sports, clubs, or students portraying Smoky Hill pride. And the following homecoming theme will be much anticipated on how it’ll revolve around the school’s 50th year.
The school community all gets to participate in a big milestone in the Smoky Hill community, everyone playing a part in celebrating history. With this year to come the school will have hopes for the next 50 years.
