decaNew DECA officers were chosen on Friday, May 13 and Monday, May 16. The interview consisted of a three to five minute presentation on their ideas or vision for the position. Students were expected to research the position and present on how they could improve the DECA program.

DECA is an international program that prepares high school students for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.

There was over 30 positions available for all DECA students to apply for. The application consisted of five to six questions explaining why they want the position. It also asked what achievements they have made in the program and what events they have attended for DECA.

There was over 60 applicants that applied for positions. Sophomore Christopher Manns is a first year applicant.

“I applied for store manager, and student athletic assistant,” Manns said. The interviewers are DECA teachers and former DECA officers. “I feel like I have a good chance of getting the positions. There’s not that many people applying for my position,” Manns said.

From those 63 applicants, 30 are chosen to do a second interview. Names and times for second interviews will be posted the morning of May 18 to decide next year’s DECA officer.
