Should School be Cancelled?

With the amount of snowfall over the weekend and the below zero temperatures, school should be cancelled for Monday, February 23

IMG_20150223_072819There has been at least four inches of snowfall so far this weekend, and so far school at Smoky is still scheduled to go on for tomorrow. Although some newscasts say the heaviest snowfall is past, there are still students that have to walk to school tomorrow morning which can be highly dangerous with the icy conditions.

The students who live closest to Smoky usually walk. But when there has been a lot of snow outside then it gets harder for them to get to school safely. There is going to be ice on the roads and the sidewalks, which could cause students to slip and hurt themselves, or cars to get into bad accidents which can also cause students to be late. Smoky Hill and the rest of the Cherry Creek School District should cancel school for all students and teachers to put their safety first.

Even though there are already almost 30 days scheduled for students to have off from school, canceling school for tomorrow would help try and keep students and other staff safe from accidents and other life endangering events. The fact that there have been accidents already from snow should be assurance enough for the district to cancel all schools.

But the district doesn’t decide until the day of school, so students should be on alert and cautious of their driving if school is still set. The Smoky Hill High School website should have information tomorrow, February 23, if there is any school.
