Philosophy Club gains insight through a new book

Social Studies teacher Stephen Fernandes sponsors the Philosophy Club every Friday from 2:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in room I-455. The students are currently reading “Cutting Through Spiritual Maternalism: An Introduction to Buddhism” by Chogyam Trungpa. The students use books to get their discussions started.

“We’re trying to learn how to let go of our ego and discover basic compassion and we’re trying to be present and be aware,” Fernandes said.

There are no limits to what the students discuss within the topics feature in the book.

“Having a place to think express thoughts and or feelings someplace to figure things out is sometimes nice,” senior Andrew Henry said, “It allows me to reflect on myself.”
