According to Los Angeles Times, there was a  21,000-gallon oil spill on the Santa Barbara County coast.

According to Los Angeles Times, the spill occurred Tuesday afternoon along a11-mile-long underground pipe that the Houston-based Plains All American Pipeline own. It spilled the equivalent of 500 barrels of crude. The pipeline is a part of a larger oil transport network in Kern County, and it was moving oil between facilities in Las Flores and Gaviota.

“Holly cow, that is a lot a oil. Junior Batina Jomboni said , 500 hundred barrels- I couldn’t imagine seeing all of that oil. Its Actually pretty sad, but it’s a good thing that the community reacted fast to it and are trying all they can to get it under control.”

By Tuesday night, the spill had already affected about a mile of a beach from west of El Refugio State Beach toward El Capitan State beach.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, launched a cleanup effort at sunrise, launching aircraft to assess the size of the spill and where it could go.According to The National Weather Service westerly winds could push the slick further down the coast.

According to Coast Guard officials, as of Wednesday morning, the spill remained largely in the Refugio State Beach in Goleta and had not moved south to Isla Vista.

Santos Cabral, a Fish and Wildlife Department warden, stated that so far there there has not been any  reports of animals injured or killed by the spill.

“I am an animal lover even though none of them has been reported hurt now, anything could happen. I really hope none of those poor animals get hurt so fingers crossed,” Jamboni said.
