According to a blog on Ipgp, a large earthquake of magnitude 7.8 occurred in central Nepal on April 25th, 2015. This earthquake was responsible for thousands of deaths and massive destructions in the city of Kathmandu and the surrounding areas.

According to BBC News, at least 65 people have died and nearly 2000 were injured during Nepal’s earthquake. The numbers are expected to rise. The earthquake was followed by at least 10 aftershocks, the strongest of which was magnitude 6.3,  just over a half hour after the 7.3 magnitude earthquake hit.

“My heart goes out to the families that lost loved ones and everyone that is suffering in Nepal  ,” said sophomore Brittany Harper said. “It’s truly heartbreaking. I could only imagine what they are going through and how they feel.”

Many celebrities have donated to Nepal to support the survivors. Cristiano Ronaldo, the current leading scorer in the Champion’s League in soccer, has donated a shirt and boots to help raise funds and has also offered to pay the full cost of the operations

“Its a great thing that he donated that money to them because they are truly in need, Harper said  “The whole thing is so sad, and I’m just happy they are being helped out in some way.”
