The most recent HOSA meeting took place today Monday, Nov. 27. This meeting talked about two main topics– the HOSA State competition and the blood drive. HOSA is a club for future health professionals or people interested in learning about their well-being and the human body.
Science Educator Chris Warren hosts the meetings in room I-208. Warren informs the members of the club that state is an option for those who want to attend this year. Warren will need to be notified by Dec. 17 if students want to participate in state and the events they would like to proceed in. For those who are unsure of what events there are, Colorado Hosa can clarify what the competition has to offer. If there are four or more students attending this year, the group will be in a “Hosable”, meaning, a group competing in the HOSA Trivia Bowl Game.
In the second half of the meeting, Warren expressed his goal of starting a blood drive donation as a community service opportunity. Taking place in the Spring, anyone above the age of 16 and over 110 pounds can donate blood to the blood drive that will presumably take place at Smoky. For members interested in helping plan the drive, anyone is welcome to join in planning and creating advertisements.
Those who want to take a leadership position can talk to Warren one-on-one about making a plan for the blood drive which would entail planning the date, where in the building it would take place, volunteer work and getting in touch with the American Red Cross’s availability in schedule. Warren needs the plan in the next week or two so he can inform Principal Bala when it will take place.
For any members who still want to help but are not interested in the planning portion, advertising such as flyers and social media would help impact the number of people who know about the blood drive. The blood drive would also most likely take place on a school day for students who want to donate.
HOSA is an all-inclusive group for people wanting to either be in the health industry or those who are interested in the human body and the wellness of others. For further information, meetings are held every Monday after school and anyone is welcome to join.
