Late winter weather causing accidents and power outages across Denver

Due to the late snow across Colorado, multiple power outages and car accidents have occurred around the Denver/Aurora area. Many people are currently trapped in elevators at Anschutz Medical Campus due to the power outages and various accidents, including a non-injury crash in front of Grandview High School, have occurred. “I think it’s absurd [because] I want to finish high school in the sun, [especially in the spring,]” senior Sarah Arnick said.

According to Xcel, around 6,500 people are without power. Hospitals, including the Children’s Hospital, are also without power, with people trapped in elevators. Various reports are coming in about dark traffic signals so police officers are telling citizens to treat traffic lights as four-way stop signs.

Students across Smoky Hill agree that the popular term, “Bipolar Colorado,” is very accurate in this situation. “I think [the snow] is kind of crazy because it was warm and sunny on Saturday and now it’s snowing,” freshman Amanda Lather said.

Many tips have been given out in wake of these storms on how to deal with late snowstorms. Make sure to shake snow off of trees to prevent branches from falling and wear warm clothes. Stay inside unless it is necessary and if a black-out occurs in school, listen to your teachers or a staff member near you.
