A video is going viral about a situation that happened in South Carolina. An officer at Spring Valley High aggressively pulling a student out of her desk and dragging the student across the classroom floor.

The video shows the officer, identified by Richland County Sheriff’s Department as Ben Fields, grabbing the female student as she is sitting in her desk and then drags her and the desk onto the floor. There is no indication in the video what precipitated the event.

“Our district is deeply concerned about an incident that occurred at Spring Valley High School today,” Hamm said in a statement. “The incident took place between a school resource officer employed by Richland County Sheriff’s Department and a student.” The video of the incident is circulating on social media.

The female student was sitting at her desk when an officer came in, grabbed her, and threw her on the ground.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott was “very disturbed” by the video.

“Student safety is and always will be the District’s top priority. The district will not tolerate any actions that jeopardize the safety of our students,” she wrote. “Upon learning of the incident, school and district administrators began an investigation. We are working closely and in full Sheriff’s Department to conduct a thorough and complete investigation.”

“I feel like the officer took it to a certain point that wasn’t that wasn’t necessary,” sophomore Hedia Thompson Brown said. “I would be scared if this happened at my school,” she said.

“I’d probably would tell the officer to stop and leave the person alone if I was there.” Thompson Brown said.
