Keisha Lopes, Staffer

A senior at Smoky Hill, Keisha Lopes is beginning her first year on the Newspaper staff. While she has little experience in the newsroom, she enjoys how newspaper can impact the Smoky Hill community. Keisha particularly likes to cover sports and extracurricular activities happening within Smoky Hill. In the future, she plans on pursuing a career in Journalism and International Affairs.

Outside of academics, Keisha is a track and field athlete. As she is very passionate about the sport, Lopes has been a varsity captain for the previous two years. She also qualified for the state meet during the 2015 season. As she has been participating in track and field since 6th grade, she is planning on continuing her passion at the collegiate level. Ideally, Keisha would like to be a Ram at Colorado State University.

Academically, she is a member of the A.V.I.D program at Smoky Hill, which is a college prep class. Along with this, Keisha is a first-time L.I.N.K leader, which helps freshman manage their first year as a high school student.

If she is not running or maintaining her academics, she is making a difference in her community. During 2014, Keisha campaigned with the Colorado Democratic Party in the Congressional election. She also pursued other internships involving technology and business.

Along with this, she is a part time employee at Hollister.

Keisha hopes to become a Peace Corp volunteer in the future. Eventually, her goal is to pursue a career in Journalism, with emphasis on international affairs and politics.
