Jessica Slofkiss, Staffer
A sophomore on her second year in Newspaper, Jessica Solfkiss loves Newspaper. Originally joining newspaper unknowing of everything the class entails, she has learned helpful skills in unbiased writing and graphic design. The class was definitely a culture shock being that it is all student run and different than any other class. Her biggest surprise was the amount of work that goes into the magazine. But what kept her coming back for a second year was the family mentality of the class itself. Being in Newspaper has also helped her in her english classes as well as learning how to operate on a deadline. Procrastination is one of the biggest mountains to climb in school, but when the entire spread relies on them, she had learned to reorganize her priorities which ended up helping her juggle all her classes and homework in the long run.
After graduation she plans to pursue a career in history and archaeology at the University of Washington, and has a particular interest in Ancient Cultures. It is a dream that her degree opens up doors for her to travel around the world exploring the sites left behind by these civilizations.
In her free time Jessica enjoys video games on multiple platforms, being both consoles and PC. When not playing her recent favorite, Destiny: The Taken King, you can usually find her on Steam.
She is a Member of Junior Classical League, here at Smoky Hill, and Latin is one of her favorite classes mainly because of the rich culture and Roman mythology that is taught along with the language.
