Senior Stress

Krystal Limon, Staffer

Senior Lara Jabr is overwhelmed about senior expenses – and all the deadlines – but not all of  these expenses aren’t paid by her parents. Jabr must work at a local fast food restaurant to cover all expenses and she still isn’t getting everything she wants.“I really wanted a ring, but it’s too expensive,” Jabr said. Class rings are around $500, depending on which you want.

It’s not that her parents can’t pay for these expenses, it’s more of an emotional approach, “I just don’t want them to pay because I feel bad, because senior year is super expensive and so much spending and money for all kinds of stuff that are kinda pointless but I kind of want them,” Jabr said. “I feel guilty, for them to pay for something that is not needed but a want of mine.. I feel i need to pay them, not them pay.”

She doesn’t want her parents to pay for something she wants the main reason for getting a job five months ago.

She had just walked away from cap and grown table “I literally just paid $300 in those five minutes,” Jabr said. That’s just the beginning of her expenses; she lists $60-70 for yearbook, $30 senior chick jersey, homecoming, prom. Jabr is paying for it all herself because she doesn’t want her parents to. She said her estimate total would be no less than $700.

“Get on top of it, don’t fall behind, get a job too, if you can’t get a job make sure you start saving for all these expenses, and you’ll actually need money for college, “ Jabr said. “Make sure you turn your stuff [Senior deadlines] in on time, or you’re screwed you won’t get your cap and gown. Make sure you get what you want, so you dont regret it later and be like ‘oh i didn’t get it.’”
