On  February 14,18  the deadliest school shooting happened since the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre. This was supposed to be a day of love where couples all over celebrate the bond that the share but instead seventeen students were killed and several more were injured at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland Florida. There has been 18 school shootings since January 1 of this year and something needs to be done. Many students across the country have stopped going to school because they no longer feel safe.

After this terrible event the students of this school took matters into their own hands and with the help of their peers and voices from all across the country they demanded action. This has resulted in two planned events: the National School Walkout on March 14 and the March for Our Lives on March 24.

One of the survivors of this shooting, Alex Wind, spoke on NBC’s Meet the Press and said, “We’re marching because it’s not just schools. It’s movie theaters, it’s concerts, it’s nightclubs. This kind of stuff can’t just happen. You know, we are marching for our lives, we’re marching for the 17 lives we lost. And we’re marching for our children’s lives and our children’s children and their children.”

These Marches are going to be focusing on getting the congress to act more against gun Violence. The students behind this march then started a the group, #NeverAgain and soon became viral.

The National School walk out will be held on March 14 at 10 am for each different time zone. The goal is that everyone walks out at this time for 17 minutes. This will be 17 minutes  to stand up for every student who lost their lives in this deadly shooting.  The next event will be March For Our Lives. This is Scheduled for March 24 and students from all across the country will be marching on Washington, DC and other major US Cities.  Below is the links regarding more information on these two events.

These students have had a very large turn out for these marches. They will be expecting over 500,000 people to be marching alongside them on March 24 alone. This is not including how many others will be Walking out on March 14. They even started a go fund me and many big brands like Gucci have been donating. Gucci alone donated $500,000. Even former president  Barack Obama is showing his support for these students.
