Fall Parent-Teacher conferences are coming up and here is what Smoky staff and students have to say about it
September 22, 2015
Thur, Sept, 24, Parent-Teacher conferences will be held from four to seven thirty pm in the East and West gyms. Parents can talk to their students teachers about how heir kids are doing in their classes and what their kids might need to improve on in class.
“I always think it’s a good idea to meet parents,” says Maureen Curran the French teacher here at Smoky Hill, “I feel that the parent’s and I are a team effort and we’re there to support the child and their school success.”
Others disagree and have a different opinion on Fall Conferences.
“I don’t think conferences are for people with A’s and B’s,” Junior Ariana Cockrell said.
“ It shouldn’t be for people with A’s and B’s then it’s like I don’t need to go.”
According to an article written by River Red College.com, “Improving your grades relies on your commitment to academic success and taking responsibility for your academic performance. Only you can make the decision to achieve success. Start by attending all classes, interacting with instructors, reading your textbooks, completing all assignments on time, and studying for tests.”
“I think the more students are focused on their grades and have that constant check and constant feedback, the more that they take charge of their own learning. [Then] If that’s top of their mind, then they’re going to see what they need to improve on, what their strengths are,[and] what their weaknesses are. They’re gonna learn how to advocate for themselves, and how to ask for help, and how to really turn those grades around and get what they want,” says Madame Curran.
Parents can look at their childs grades on Powerschool here: https://my.cherrycreekschools.org/ They can login in using their childs Id information.

I’ve always enjoyed going to parent-teacher conferences. I like to meet my daughters teachers and let them know that I’m involved in my childrens education.
