During a presidential debate on March 3, running republican candidate Donald Trump said he would want to change the law banning waterboarding. He proposed a plan that would allow for tougher actions on waterboarding. This is nothing new however, Trump has been pushing waterboarding since last year.

“Trump is unqualified to run and he mocks the United States. We all have our own perspectives on religions and it all depends on how you’re taught and raised,” Junior Sana Shehzad said. “My parents taught me to respect every religion as if it were my own. Though people should have their own common sense when dealing with these matters.”

According to the Washington Post, Trump talked about Waterboarding to a crowd in a November 2015 rally in Columbus, Ohio. “Would I approve waterboarding? You bet your ass I would- In a heartbeat. And I would approve more than that. Don’t kid yourselves folks, it works okay? It works. Only a stupid person would say it doesn’t work,” Trump said to the crowd.

Waterboarding is an interrogation technique by strapping down someone with their face covered with a cloth and pouring water over their mouth and nose to create the stimulation of drowning. Waterboarding was banned in 2009 by Barack Obama.

Although Trump has said this statement before, Trump added on the idea of killing families who are against the United States.

“When you get these terrorists, you have to take out their families.” Trump said, “They care about their lives, don’t kid yourself.”

However, March 4, a day after saying he wants to be more strict on waterboarding, Trump changed his ideas on the subject.

“I’ll use every legal power to stop these terrorist enemies,” Trump tells Wall Street Journal. “I do, however, understand that the US is bound by laws and treaties and I will not order our military or other officials to violate those laws and seek their advice on such matters.”
