Threat Charges

Six charges are being made against juveniles who had a connection with recent threats against schools.

After threats were made last week to three different Aurora schools, six juveniles face charges. The schools that students are getting charged for threatening, Hinkley High School (reported Feb. 17), Horizon Middle School (reported Feb. 23) and North Middle School (reported Feb. 23).

 

Aurora police Chief Nick Metz made a statement on February 27,announcing the charges and said, “Every student and faculty member in a school not only has the right to be safe when at school, but they also have the right to feel safe at school. It is our duty as law enforcement officers to to keep the community safe and reduce the fear of crime.”

 

There are charges pending against a juvenile male in connection with the threats made against Hinkley, they were reported on February 17, according to police. Another charge is against a juvenile female who had a connection with the threats made against Horizon, first reported on February 23.

 

Four more students have been charged with threats made to North, first reported to police on February 23. The charges were made against three juvenile females for one incident, and one juvenile male in another. The two incidents at North were reported on the same day, but they were separate, according to Aurra Police spokesman Officer Bill Hummel.

 

Police are saying that investigators are looking into several other internet threats made against other local schools and hoping to file charges against the students involved with those cases as well.
