Smoky Hill high school is having a blood drive to raise awareness about the need for blood. Specifically Avid is donating blood to Bonfils Blood center. Wermers said the primary reason for this blood drive is because most students didn’t know that they could donate blood at age 16 with a parent’s permission.

Kim Wermers, the lead coordinator for the blood drive, hopes that students can establish a habit of giving through this blood drive.

“It’s good to know that you can do something so easily, and have it help other people at the same time,” Wermers said.

A lot of students may be hesitant about donating blood but according to Wermers, its a very quick and easy process. If you have signed up to get blood drawn, students will go to the upper level of the cafeteria, on March 4th. Professional nurses will be there to draw blood. A pint of blood will be taken.
