Thursday 18 The NFL  decided that they will not outfit players with the new helmet Sensors for the 2015 football season. This comes after people are starting to question how safe the sport is for the players. The new technology sensors were suppose to be used  to reduce the amount of concussions a player gets during the game, and to help alert the medical staff and the coach of a possible concussion.

According to espn.go.com the sensors were develpoed by one of the leauges very own medical advisors. The decision was confirmed by a league spokesman who told the media that they will continue to do research on the topic, and analyze the information that they have already been given. But they will not be used in the upcoming football season.

At least 20 colleges require their football players to wear the medical sensor to alert the coaches and medical personnel, if a player may have a concussion and whether or not they should pull them out of the game or not. The sensors show where a collision has occurred and gives the amount of force that was generated from the hit the player received.

The reason why the NFL won’t allow the sensors is because they could enable the coaches and medical personnel to know how many hits a player has received, the force of the hit that they received, and where players most likely get hit in the head at. Some players and NFL personnel don’t know how reliable the technology is and if could really help out a player during the season.

Others are having problems with if it will delay the response time of the medical personnel to and injured player out on the field. It takes time for the medical  team to realize that a collision did happen and then analyze the data to see if an injury has occurred. Some of the NFL personnel are for using the sensors and want them to be used in future seasons. The NFL is researching a mouth guard sensor and a sensor hidden in the players helmet for future use in upcoming seasons to keep the players risk of getting a serious concussion down.

They  should allow the medical senors in the NFL because many people have undiagnosed concussions,” Sophomore Elijah Grant said.

The NFL has not made a decision on whether or not they will use any of the sensors mentioned anytime soon. For more information on what the NFL is saying about the sensor helmets go to
