Taking a Peep into American History

Another way to get Students interested in American History

Easter is right around the corner, and one specific teacher, Kim Wermers, is using this holiday as a way to get her American history students more involved. Wermers did not originally come up with this idea, but she did make it her own. 20140324-175253.jpg

The idea originated from the Denver Post. According to the Website, thedenverpost.com, in order to enter the contest, one must build a diorama or sculpture of anything as long as it is made with peeps. A picture must be taken of the peeps sculpture, and then sent to denverpost.com/youpost. The reward for the winner is a peeps gift basket.

Wermers has a similar idea, but rather than a diorama of absolutely anything made out of peeps, the sculpture has to be a recreation of anything in american history.

Wermers understands that this is a very stressful time of year for certain students, which is also why she decided to this.

“I wanted to think of something fun to do, because they are really tired and nervous about May.” Wermers said.

Wermers is giving 50 extra credit points to her students who decide to give the peeps a shot.

If her students are interested in entering into the Peeps contest through the Denver post, the contest ends March 31, and anyone can enter.
