Smoky’s first female baseball player
Sometimes it doesn’t come easy.
Freshman Emilie Roberts, a Smoky Hill High School varsity softball and now baseball player who is advanced in her skills and knowledge of the game both baseball and softball who doesn’t look for any kind of special privileges. “She (Emilie) is an extremely hard worker, she has taken on this challenge the same way she has taken on every challenge. It is with 100 percent heart and passion,” baseball coach KingsBaker said.
The biggest challenge for her is trying to balance out time to do well in school, softball, and be successful at baseball as stated by Coach KingsBaker. Emilie is a hard worker and will often be told to by KingsBaker to stop because her body can’t handle to that. “Shes had a few injuries so we try to slow her down sometimes,” KingsBaker said.
As said by coach KingsBaker you would forget that she is different in regards to her being a female. “Any type of yelling, or conditioning she just accepts it as being something she has to do,” coach KingsBaker said.
Roberts described her feelings of being the first female on a baseball team in Smoky Hill as being scared or nervous, but hopes that all will go smoothly this season for her. “I’m going to work my butt off every practice and game, and I will give 110 percent every time that I’m out on the dirt,” Roberts said.
