Smoky Hill has teamed up with Etsy to give students the opportunity to buy a handcrafted four pack of coasters with Smoky Hill designs such as the mascot or the slogan, “Pride in the Present, Success in the Future”, 40% of proceeds go to the IB program at Smoky Hill. However, only nine packs have been sold as of 4/21/19.

Some student’s at Smoky Hill said they wouldn’t buy the coasters due to their price or even the fact that they don’t often use coasters.

Kaden Naso a sophomore at Smoky Hill said,  “I wouldn’t because it’s 15 bucks and generally I don’t even use coasters I know some people do but you can just replace it with a napkin or something and guess what, it doesn’t cost 15 bucks, you could just  use a napkin to not let water go on a table so I just see no point in using a coaster.”

One student in particular named Trisha Naso a freshman at Smoky Hill would prefer something else that’s around the same price as the coasters.

Naso said, “I would not buy the IB coasters because they are too overpriced I would recommend that they sell something like a thin material long sleeve shirt with a really nice design on it because you know that’s what you can buy one for $15 and it would look pretty nice.”

However, some student’s believe the price is too cheap for handcrafted coasters. One such student is Colton Baker a sophomore at Smoky Hill.

Baker said, “I say the price is too cheap considering the fact that you’re making them by hand. I feel like it should be at least 20$ just knowing prices for other coasters and cause you’re trying to raise money.”

Although Baker wouldn’t buy the coaters personally he believes that they accurately represent Smoky Hill and should still be available for students to buy.

Baker said, “I think the patterns are definitely representing what you’re trying to represent so that’s good and I definitely think it’s Smoky Hill merch which is always a plus.”
