Senior Trevor Josephs is more than your average senior suffering from senioritis. Josephs spends his summer and more time in a program called “Sea Cadets” where he learns life and military skills that helps set him up for success in life and the military. Although it is not a commitment, he knows he will join the Navy after high school.

“We learn life skills and military skills. It sets us up with all the knowledge that will help us succeed in life and the military if we choose. Most people do end up joining though,” said Josephs. “There’s even summer and winter advanced trainings about various things, I actually went to one where we learned about being military police in Virginia last summer and went to a special operations winter survival last winter up in the woods near Oakcreek, CO.”

With military background in his family, Joseph’s knew he wanted to join the Navy just like his grandparents. With more than just working on the surface of the ocean, Navy also works under the oceans; also where Josephs will be.

“Under the ocean is where I’ll be. My official title is Submarine Electronic Computer Field. That basically means I’m the subs electrician. the Electrical Technician, which works on everything else on the sub, from the lights to the engines,” Josephs said. “I’m very excited and optimistic about the Navy.”

Two months after seniors get to leave school, Josephs will be shipped out on July 25.

“I wanted the Navy because it’s really what I am most interested in. I’d rather be on an empty ocean than an empty desert. And the Navy’s culture and tradition interested me too. What it finally boiled down to was what kind of jobs were available to me in the Navy than other branches,” said Josephs.
