Thursday May 14, 2015, starting around 1:30 p.m., was the last assembly the class of 2015 would ever go to, and the beginning of a new senior class; it was the day of the Senior Exit assembly. This assembly is the last of the school year and it is to commemorate all of the school year’s achievements and to recognize the seniors and their adventure into a new life. Junior Janell Garcia was very excited to be running across the gym floor to the senior side, but was also sad to see her senior friend graduate. “I’ve been waiting for this since my freshman year,” Garcia said. “But I am going to miss my senior friends.”

During the assembly there was recognitions for all of the school’s achievements, the teachers that are going to retire, and recognition for how the senior class has won over nine million dollars in scholarships.Toward the end of the assembly there was a senior slideshow presented, showing seniors this year and in their past years at Smoky Hill. The moment everyone was waiting for, especially for juniors and seniors, couldn’t come fast enough; running across that gym floor to either exit the gym or run into their new status as the upper class.

“Now this is my year,” Garcia said.
Today, May 15, is the seniors’ official last day- the day they check in their old books and check out themselves.
