Finals are next week, and being a student myself, I know how hard it is to find time to study.

The weekend before finals, in a lot of cases, can be very stressful if not used correctly. I have developed a few useful tips and tricks that may be useful to some students, on how to study for finals.

First, I’ve been there. It seems that everything is more important than studying for finals. Somehow, cleaning your room seems an absolute necessity all of the sudden. That’s why students should do everything they think they must do before the weekend starts. Any chores that you may need to do during the weekend should be taken care of before the weekend starts. Free up as much time as you can.

Another great tip is to wake up early enough so you aren’t tired when you are studying. This can also mean for a majority of students going to bed early is a must as well. According to a website called, http://healthysleep.med.harvard.edu/, “Research suggests that sleep plays an important role in memory, both before, and after learning a new task.” So if you are trying to memorize vocabulary or equations, it is better to do so with a brain that is awake.

Lastly, and probably the biggest issue, is listening to music while studying. A lot of students including myself like to study with music, because it is hard for them to study in such a quiet setting, but it is scientifically proven that your brain can only focus on one thing at a time. Along with that, your brain focuses on the thing that is more appealing.

According to http://brainrules.blogspot.com, “Multitasking, when it comes to paying attention, is a myth. The brain naturally focuses on concepts sequentially, one at a time.”
