Political Prodigy? Oh, same.
When will we ACTUALLY know about politics?
March 4, 2016
It’s the Wednesday after Super Tuesday. Registered voters are abuzz, as many of them took off work, in order to partake in the mega political event. There are signs firmly planted in lawns, showing obvious support of a candidate, stickers of famous mottos, and then there’s social media, flooded with opinions and fierce debates.
Suddenly, as Super Tuesday rolls around, inactive, world renowned political analysts let us know that they have returned from a four-year furlough. It always impresses me how many friends I have who are experts in politics when we are on the backstretch of the election. I find myself being educated by my professional friends and acquaintances who are high school prodigies in politics.
Here’s where it gets annoying. Half of the people who take it upon themselves to inflict their opinions on others, are in a sense, ignorant to the big picture of politics. PSA: What we hear mainstream is BIAS. While there’s truth to it, the media has an opinion as well. Take this as an example, conservatives tend to watch CNN and MSNBC, while liberals prefer stations like FOX News. There is a reason people choose to watch a certain news station; they will tell you what benefits their views. Often times, people will not even go to the news, but instead cultivate an opinion via bits and pieces of Twitter. In this case, can anyone tell me where THEY get their opinions from? Do they intensely research a candidate’s platform, followed by an interview? No, that’s what a newspaper company is for. What you hear through social media is not an intellectual way to decipher who you vote for in the upcoming election.
The point I am making is, the fact that people have incredibly strong conceptions regarding candidates and politics without educated knowledge is annoying.
So, if you’re one of those people supporting Bernie Sanders because you heard that college will be free, did you ever realize that he is a socialist? What’s a socialist? Let me just put it this way, what’s your opinion on communism? Oh, you hate Donald Trump? Well tell me how you’d like universal healthcare? That’s healthcare for EVERYONE.
No one wants to look unknowledgable, so don’t! Look into a candidate and their platform and ALL that they offer. Actually, there is a tool open to the public that makes it simple to find out this information. The catch is, you have to lift a few fingers and type it. Research; you probably have been doing it it for years, and probably will do it for many years to come. Do it for something important, like who’s running the country you live in!
