The Parent Information Network (PIN) Annual Brunch will be held at Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church on Tue. May 3 from 8:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

PIN is a parent information, support, and advocacy program designed by parents and professionals to help families who have children with serious emotional, behavioral, and/or mental health challenges.

PIN helps parents and caregivers stay connected with other parents to help reduce the stress and isolation they can feel as they cope with raising a child with mental health needs.

“Parents come together to a support group and they sit down with other parents, and can share their experience and know they are not alone, because it is very isolating to be a parent of a kid with a mental health challenge,” Coordinator of Parents of Transitional Age Youth, Tresa Salters said.

According to bamsi.org, “Services offered by PIN include monthly parent support groups; one-on-one support from PCs, including telephone support and attendance at school and family meetings; parent/community education, including free workshops; family activities and events; and a resource center that includes information on services in the community. All services are confidential and free of charge.”

“We have a dads group, that meets once a month, that is run by a Bamsi clinician, and it’s great because dads need support as well,” Salters said.

During the brunch, school psychologist Dr. Kristen Race, will be speaking on fuse brain science with mindfulness strategies to create resilience towards stress.

Dr. Kristin Race is an author and nationally-recognized speaker. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, NPR, The Washington Post, CNN, The Chicago Tribune, Parenting magazine and Real Simple.

All parents of disabled children, and children that are currently enrolled in the CCSD, are welcome to attend.

To attend the PIN Annual Brunch there is a $5 suggested donation, but no need to R.S.V.P

If in need of childcare during the event, visit http://www.pinccsd.org/ by April 28 to make a childcare reservation. The cost is $10 per child or $15 for two siblings
