Race for the Cure2Sun, Sep 27, 2015 the Komen Race for the Cure took place at the Pepsi Center. The race is to raise funds and awareness to find a cure for breast cancer. It also celebrates breast cancer survivorship, and honors those who have lost their battle with cancer.

According to 9News, 20,000 families and friends attended the race. The donations were split 75% go to breast cancer programs in Colorado and 25% towards national breast cancer research programs.

Sophomore Jacqueline Kamlet ran the 5k [3.1mi] with her family for an hour and a half. She has been attending the race for as long as she can remember with her whole family of five. “Last year we made the Kim’s Crusaders team and we’ve been doing that for two years.” Kamlet said.

Her family and herself have team t-shirts, on the back of them it says, “You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have,” Kamlet said.

The reason why they choose the name Crusaders was, “My uncle came up with it but it’s like the crusade against cancer.” Kamlet said.

The quote on the back of their team shirts also has a meaning, “We [family] found it online and it reminded us of everything we have been through and everything my mom fought through and it’s also up in three places in my house,” Kamlet said.

Kim Kamlet, Jacqueline’s mother, fought cancer for a month before losing her battle.”It was tough but it only lasted a month,I had to get her ready every morning and my dad would carry her to her appointment because she was too weak. She had one treatment and had to get fluid drained a lot. She was diagnosed exactly a month before she died,” Kamlet said.

Life without a mom is tough but it’s tough on any family going through this, Kamlet said, “I would probably tell my mom that I am okay but life is hard without her and I would do anything to have a little more time.”

“I would tell other families that it is going to be hard but there will be supportive people who come into your life so you know if you fall, there is always somebody to catch you, even unexpected.” Kamlet said. “Although you don’t see it right now there is a purpose for all this, so don’t give up.”

Kamlet continues to live life as happily as she can, this event in her life has made her a stronger and more grateful person. “It continues to make me a stronger person because it’s a ‘baggage’ I have to carry everyday and I have to continue to learn how to live a ‘normal’ life.” Kamlet said.

Rest In Peace Mrs.Kim Kamlet you are missed very much everyday.
