The IB art show took place today, April 25, in the lecture center. It started at 8:00 A.M. and ended at 3:30 P.M. The art show takes place once a year to showcase IB seniors works of art. When IB freshman start school, they then get to choose a sixth subject which may include business, music, or art.

If students choose art, they would then spend  freshman year at Smoky taking certain art classes. During their sophomore and junior year, IB art students get a sketchbook to plan and design work they might want to build in the future.

When senior year arrives, the student then gets to present 12 to 18 pieces they’ve created throughout the year at the art show.

There were all types of art in the lecture center. There were paintings made by water color, and drawing created purely from pencil. There were statues and 3D pictures

Aquzana Mejia, an IB senior at Smoky Hill, participated in today’s art show. She presented a variety of different pieces, such as textured art, drawings, and paintings.

Mejia enjoyed participating in the art show because it was a chance to express herself. “We put a lot of hard work into it [The art show] and it’s nice to have people come in and compliment all of that hard work,” Mejia said.
