The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee conducted a study looking into any links between moderate coffee consumption- three to eight ounce cups per day, or up to 400 milligrams of caffeine per day- and studying the possibilities of there being long term dangers for healthy people, said news.health.com, which is a study that math coordinator, Adrian Holguin needs to follow as he consumes more than ten cups of coffee per day.
According to the FDA, 400 mg, per day, of caffeine -that’s about four cups of coffee- is a safe amount of caffeine for healthy adult’s. But too much caffeine—500 to 600 mg—can be dangerous, causing restlessness, tremors, irritability, insomnia and stomach upset.
“I don’t know how many cups of coffee I have a day, but I brew myself a craft, like ten cups, and then I will finish that. I’ll drink one of that and then I will fill a thermos -bigger than the average size thermos- and then finish that over the course of the day, and then maybe I will go to Starbucks,” Holguin said.
On average, Holguin drinks about twenty cups of coffee a day, then depending on how he feel’s at the end of the school day, he may decide to go to Starbucks.
As heavy caffeine consumption can be extremely dangerous and harming to the body; Holguin only suffers from headaches when he does not consume his twenty cups a day, at minimum.
“If I do not have coffee, I will get headaches. I take Excedrin when I have headaches because, Excedrin has caffeine in it” said Holguin.
According to chealth.canoe.com, an addiction to coffee can become psychologically dependent -believing that the drug is an essential part of their lives-, develop tolerance -requiring more caffeine over time to get the same effects – and undergo a withdrawal syndrome if they do not drink their coffee. According to chealth’s studies, Holguin is addicted to caffeine.
“Sometimes on the weekend I will forget to have coffee, because it’s apart of my everyday routine, and I will wake up with a really bad headache, and my wife will ask me if I had coffee and I will be like oh, no, but the funny thing is that I don’t drink soda pops at all” said Holguin.
As Holguin is addicted to coffee, cnn.com recomend’s that he should watch a viral video, drink a glass of water, go outdors, or pop a mint to try and reduce his caffine intake and stay awake in the afternoon without coffee.
