scamBeware marathon runners, a new scam has come to Colorado. Instead of runners running in the Color 5 Mile, they will run off with the runners’ money.

“It makes people look really bad. Instead of creating a business that would help people or take care of animals, it takes your money and makes America look really bad. because of it. Most people do these runs to help a charity so it makes this worse because it tricks you and steals,” junior Alyssa Morgan said.

Denver’s Better Business Bureau says the Color 5 Mile is a scam. Right now, runs are scheduled to happen in more than 100 cities, including Denver and Colorado Springs. However, clicking on Colorado Springs location will instead pull up a run that is to take place in Kansas. There are grammar errors and misspelled words on the website as well as incorrect information.

Denver’s run is scheduled to take place at a bar, according to the scam’s website. Denver was reported to be unaware of the run that was supposedly scheduled to occur.

This is the first run-related scam to be reported in Denver according to BBB. Anyone who signed up is asked to call them at (303) 758-2100.

“[The scam] it kind of makes you wonder if there are more.” Morgan said.

This is not to be confused with the upcoming Color Run taking place in Denver. This is a legitimate run.
