IMPORTANT UPDATE BELOW THE ORIGINAL ARTICLE.

Up to 13 people were killed and up to 20 were injured today when a lone gunman opened fire at an Oregon community college. The shooter, a 20 year-old man, was killed while exchanging gunfire with the police.

The shooter, according to the police, acted alone and there are no other threats against the school, Umqua Community College, or community.

The shooting was reported to occur in only one classroom. Around 10 a.m., local time, the police department received a phone call of an active shooter in a classroom. The shooting appeared to start in Snyder Hall, during a speech and writing class.

The college was placed on lockdown while the police, ATF, Homeland Security officers, and K-9 units entered the building, which is located six miles north of Rosenburg, Ore.

The college was established in 1964 and has 16 buildings, as well as a track and tennis court. This is the first mass killing on a school campus this year, the last one being on Oct. 24, in Marysville, Wash.

More information will be released as it comes.

Update: A tenth person has died. The report is now ten have been killed with seven injured.

The 26 year-old gunman has been identified but the Douglass County sheriff has refused to name him to deny the credit that “he was seeking prior to the event.”

“It cannot be this easy for somebody who wants to inflict harm on other people to get his or her hands on a gun.” President Obama said. He vowed to bring up gun laws each time a shooting happened.
