Cold Weather, Harsh Conditions

Other than the cold conditions outside these past few days, there has also been around two to four inches of snow. Sunday, January 5, the high was 14 degrees with a low of four degrees.

In the cold, snowy weather, there are many safety precautions that need to be remembered. Whether you are driving or walking, it is always important to be aware of careless drivers and drivers who seem to be lacking in skill.

Make sure you keep your eyes open when driving in snowy conditions. When driving in conditions like these, not only is it important to be aware of drivers at least half a mile in front of you, but also good to be aware of what’s going on next to you and behind you.

Marty Coniglio, a 9news meteorologist, talked about the many safety precautions that should be made in cold, snowy conditions like these. “[For drivers] Make sure to drive at lower speeds and increase the distance between you and the person in front of you; it gives you and the person in front of you more time to react.” Coniglio said

While it is always important to be safe when driving, it is also important to stay safe when walking out in the cold. “Be sure to dress in layers and keep your fingertips, nose, and ears covered.” Coniglio said.
