When the weather gets bad, the Cherry Creek School District wants to make the best decision to keep students and faculty safe. This begins the systematic process with the earliest forecast of bad weather.
The process for determining whether school will be cancelled or delayed begins with the district receiving the weather forecasts from
AccuWeather and NOAA.
“As soon as we receive information that a storm is on the way we begin monitoring the forecast by the National Weather Services and other meteorological sources.” Said the superintendent Harry Bull on the CCSD website.
If snow is in the forecast the superintendent, the superintendent assistant of Faculty Support, and Transportation Department wake up at 3 A.M. and begin to observe their areas. At 3:30 drivers begin to report their conditions to the transportation director.
Before 4:30 A.M. the director shares the information with the superintendent and assistant superintendent. The superintendent then reviews all information and makes a final decision.
If there is a weather delay or cancellation, families will be notified no later than 6 A.M. In rare cases the district may make a decision the night before. In this case, families will be notified between 9-10 P.M.
When there is a delayed start, high school bus pick ups will be delayed by 30 minutes.
In cases of cancellation, all before and after school programs are cancelled as well. The in-district sports events and team practices will be postponed.
