Astronomy Class Rocket Contest
Rocket Contest!
October 6, 2015
Seniors and Juniors are doing a bottle rocket project. They get to build and launch the project that they built. They have to bring their own materials and use a two liter bottle to build their rocket.
“We use two liter bottles as the chamber, the only rule is the chamber cannot be compromised and you can’t cut it either,” said Mr. Murray, one of the teachers for the Astronomy classes. “The chamber/bottle cannot be punctured or cut because then there’s no pressure left.”
“Things like cardboard, wood, other plastic bottles, I think, the main thing is that anything with paper is bad because it’s flimsy and not sturdy,” said Mr. Murray. Various types of cones have also been used for the nose of the rocket.
You pump it up to 80 pounds per square inch, and the chamber is also filled halfway with water, and the rest is pressurized air. “After we launch the rockets, we come in and use the times that we timed, and then we can use a physics formula to calculate the height,” said Mr. Murray. “And the highest rocket wins the contest, because itś about height.”
The classes had about two class periods and from day one to look up designs online to get an idea of what to design. “They had to go to at least five websites to design and build their rocket,” said Mr. Murray. “A good thing to do would be to do is to have them rebuild and fix there mistakes.”
Alight your good to put it up on the site did you send me this picture yet
no the teacher i interviewed has an off period and i can’t find him to take a picture alri
