An organization called Backpack Society has partnered with Smoky hill to bring food that is accessible to all students. Special education teacher Lynn Frickey is in charge of the process and has set up a food cart in the library tech office. Each day, the cart is kept stocked and organized for hungry students. Students are also allowed to ask for a weekend bag of snacks and small meals, or they can sign up for the food box program for when they are out of school.

Frickey is working to further spread the allowance of food to all classrooms and students. “I did an engagement survey with about 400 kids here at the high school. And from that survey, we identified that a number of them have food scarcity issues,” Frickey said.
