The smell of pumpkin spice, and the sight of rows upon rows of costumes can only mean one thing – the month of October is back. Some may argue and say that Halloween is only for one day, and then its all over but that never really is the case is it? People celebrate Halloween all month with festivals, spooky decorations, and most popular of all: Haunted houses.

According to  www.hauntworld.com the Asylum Haunted house, located at at 6100 E. 39th Ave, Denver, CO 80207, is number seven of the top 13 haunted houses in America. The website also states, “There’s terror in the heart of the Mile High City. These haunted houses offer intense graphic experiences, where attention is paid to every detail ensuring those who visit have a frightening good time.”

Farther down the list, there’s the 13th floor, ranking at number 12. Listed at three different locations in America, Colorado being one of them, and Texas and Arizona being the other two.

One lesser known by America but beloved by the community of Aurora is the 13th Door haunted house. Rather than create a new theme and story every year, the creators of this house made a legened going along with it. It goes like this:

On a very cold October night, John Barrington a wealthy Denver Millionaire was throwing his annual All Hallows Eve party in the Barrington Hotel’s Penthouse suite.

Andrew Barrington, John’s nephew, had a terrible gambling problem. Specifically, he was a terrible gambler. He owed lots of money to a lot of shady people. Many of them had grown tired of Andrew’s empty promises and were demanding that he make good on his debts or there would be severe consequences. Andrew went to his uncle’s hotel, desperately seeking his Uncle’s help. His Uncle, more Scrooge than benefactor, refused his pleadings and had Andrew thrown out.  Andrew was driven insane by his uncle’s response.

Later that evening, he returned to the hotel while the party was still in full swing and blocked all the exits to the ballroom and started a fire. Rescuers and bystanders at the scene were tortured by the screams of those trapped behind the locked doors. Only once the fire was put out, was the full horror of the tragedy known. Burned bodies were found throughout the entire hotel with no sign of the killer. Only one person survived the tragedy to tell the story, and that was because he found the only unblocked door – the 13th Door.

It is said you can still hear the screams of those burning alive as Andrew Barrington haunts the hotel seeking revenge on anyone who steps inside…

If you want to survive you must FIND THE 13TH DOOR!

“[Terror in the Corn] is a haunted house, in a courn maze [instead of] an actual house,” says Trevor Josephs excitedly as he speaks about going to Terror in the Corn for the first time.

This haunted corn maze is being held at Anderson Farms located at 6728 County Road Erie Co 80516. Along with Terror in the Corn, Anderson Farms also offers the Zombie Paintball hunt. In this terrifying experience, only the brave can survive. Groups are herded into a wagon and eqipped with paintball guns in an effort to protect the farm from the undead.

In Boulder, Colorado, Junior, Mia Coats will be one of the makeup artists and actors in The 13th Floor Haunted house. “I’ve worked at [The 13th Floor] in Denver, then I also worked at the 13th Door. [I’ve been doing this for] four [years] now, I do a lot of the makeup. I’ll [also] be set up in different parts of the haunted house to scare people but I like doing makeup more.”
