Two high school football players from San Antonio’s John Jay High School were suspended for intentionally tackling a referee at their football game against Marble Falls High School Sep, 14. The first football player was a defensive back and tackled the blind sided referee from behind, and then another football player from the same team ran up and jumped on top of the referee.

As soon as the incident occurred at the game, the two players were ejected from the game, and suspended from the Mustangs’ Team (their high school’s team). In the state of Texas, anybody at the age of 17 or older is considered an adult, which means the two could face jail time if they are 17. No arrests have been made, but if there are charges filed against the two players, they could face varying degrees of assault.

The schools district along with the University Interscholastic League, are both looking into the matter and talking with all the coaches and teammates to see if they can get any further information on what made the two players want to tackle the referee. They are also talking to all the other high schools in the area to see if they have any insight into the matter.

According to Cnn.com “The video of the referee getting attacked by the two football players has gone viral and has about 6 million views”. It was also picked up by news stations in the area and by national news stations. The video shows several different angles of the incident that can help the police and other court officials decide what they want to do as the investigation continues on in the upcoming weeks.
