Who Do We Blame For Flappy Bird?
Flappy Bird Gets Deleted
Feb. 8, 2014, Dong Nguyen, creator of the popular mobile game Flappy Bird, decided to delete the game off of the app stores. This game was released on May 24th, 2013. Flappy Bird is a game where the player plays the role of a flying bird. The player must guide the bird safely through pipes without touching a pipe.
During Dec., Flappy Bird started getting popular and more people started downloading it. Nguyen used to earn $50,000 a day from this game. Now Flappy Bird is no longer in the app stores. “I was really surprised that Flappy Bird was deleted. It was so addicting, however it caused people to change their actions that led them into certain problems,” sophomore Elizabeth Mcnamer said.
According to the article “Flappy Bird Creator, Dong Nguyen, Says He Will Pull Game As He ‘Can’t Take This Anymore’” in the Huffington Post, Dong Nguyen said that taking the game down has nothing to do with legal issues. “I am sorry ‘Flappy Bird’ users, 22 hours from now, I will take ‘Flappy Bird’ down. I cannot take this anymore.” Nguyen said in the Huffington Post.
Now on Ebay people are selling I-phones and I-pads with Flappy Bird already installed in them for $80,000 and more. “Most people agree that this game causes mixed emotions like anger, sadness, and excitement,” Mcnamer said.
