Volunteer Opportunities for NHS Members
NHS offers upcoming volunteer opportunities
January 22, 2016
National Junior Honors Society (NHS) has several volunteer opportunities for their junior and senior members to help them meet their 15 point volunteering requirement.
Students have the option of forming a NHS trivia bowl on Mon. Jan, 25 as a part of Make – A- Wish week, or members can choose to form a dodgeball team for one point each on Tues, Jan, 26. If students want to volunteer in the dodgeball game, the forms are available in the Activities office.
Members also get the chance to participate in the Lip Dub Jan. 29, that will take place after the prep assembly. Members who participate in the Lip Dub must bring, and wear, their NHS t-shirts. No points are offered for this activity.
NHS has also offered the opportunity for some of its members to clean up after the Winter Dance Sat, Jan.30, for one point. Members who volunteer for this event must remain at the dance or be present from 11 p.m. till 11:30 p.m.
In addition to the Wish Week opportunities, NHS is looking for members to help tutor elementary students at Independence Elementary school’s Homework Club for one point per day that the member attends. Members wanting to participate in this volunteer opportunity meet on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. To sign up for this opportunity there is a signup sheet located outside of Mr. Paricio’s room II-605. Students must state their commitment level in addition to signing it.
Other opportunities will be taking place next month that members can attend. Those opportunities include; the Challenge School 10th Annual Science Fair Judging, the Toy Drive for Children’s Hospital, USFS Special Olympics, and the Wrestling Tournament. Members can get more information on these projects from their group leader, or Mr. Paricio.
