Saturday, May, 2, was one of the biggest sports days in America. There was the Kentucky Derby at Churchill downs. The WBC/WBA welterweight champion between Floyd Mayweather jr and Pacquiao.The NFL draft, the NBA playoffs, and the Boston Red Sox game. This made May 2, one of the biggest sports days in all of 2015.

 

The Kentucky Derby was located at Churchill downs and included  18 horses and jocks in the race. People placed bets on American Pharaoh, Dortmund, and Firing line, with American Pharaoh unexpectedly taking home the trophy. This gave Jockey Victor Espinoza a third win in the Kentucky Derby, with two of his wins being back to back. He won last year riding California Chrome.

 

The WBC/WBA welterweight championship against Floyd Mayweather jr and Pacquiao was one of the most anticipated fights of the year.The event was held in MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas Nevada. Floyd Mayweather being the favorite out of the two fighters, defeated Pacquiao in the 12th round.Floyd Mayweather jr took home the win, which helped him improve his professional career 48-0. For Pacquiao, the fight was his sixth loss in his career and was the third loss in the last six fights he has fought in.

 

The fight got a lot of media attention and in turn made millions of dollars. People wanting to watch the fight had to pay to sit in the arena, as well as watch the fight on television. The seats in the arena ranged from 3,000 dollars to around 40,000 dollars. Making the revenue for the fight go up to about 400,000,000 dollars. The fight made 40,000 pay per view buys as well. The fight was Broadcasted on HBO and Showtime.

 

The NBA playoffs had just begun, with game seven and the Spurs and the Clippers going head to head. The Spurs scored a total of 109 points against the Clippers, who scored a total of 111 points. The Clippers will advance on to next round of the playoffs.

 

The National Hockey league also playing a game between the Washington Capitals and The New York Rangers. The Rangers advancing to the next round with a  winning score of 3-2.

 

The NFL draft also came to an end with the last few players getting chosen to play for a team. With picks like Dwight Clark( 49ers and a 10 round pick), Terrell Davis(Broncos and a sixth round pick) , Russell Wilson ( Seahawks and third round pick), and Tom Brady( sixth round pick by the Patriots) getting picked.

 

There was also a Boston Red Sox game against the New york Yankees with the Yankees taking the win 4-2. All of these sports, and more, made May 2nd one of the biggest sports day of the year.
“I thought it was a good fight, Pacquiao got some good punches in between rounds but, overall  Mayweather won the fight hands down no excuses.” Sophomore Ramelle Brown said “ All those excuses about him hurting his shoulder I don’t wanna hear it , he didn’t say nothing about it before the fight started, and  it was just a good fight, but Mayweather did take it.”
